Glass bottles are widely used in alcoholic beverages such as whiskey, vodka, rum, gin, brandy, tequila and more. And glass packaging manufacturers are more and more. But glass alcohol bottles are heavier than plastic ones and tend to break. So what are the advantages of glass liquor bottles? And how are glass liquor bottles made?

    Advantages of Glass Liquor Bottles

    1. Glass has good barrier properties, and can prevent oxygen and other gases into the internal contents. So glass bottles can keep your alcoholic beverages fresh for longer.

    2. Empty glass liquor bottles can be reused to reduce packaging costs and protect our environment.

    3. Glass bottles have high safety, good corrosion resistance, and resistance.

    4. In addition, as the glass bottle production line is suitable for automatic filling and the automatic filling technology and equipment are more mature, it has certain production advantages to pack beverages and liquors with glass bottles.

How are glass liquor bottles made?

Glass bottles used to be hand blown, but now we can mass-produce alcohol glass bottles through the methods below.

The manufacturing process starts by collecting recycled glass which is cut into small pieces and adding 4 other basic ingredients: silica, feldspar, soda, and limestone. All these mixtures are stored, collected, and melted at a high temperature of 1,500 degrees Celsius until they turn into molten material.

    Glass Forming

When the mixture melts, the blade cuts and transfers it to a molding machine. The liquid glass reaches the machine and forms the neck and basic shape of the bottle. A bottle with a neck and the general shape of a glass bottle is called a blank. And finally, we're going to get the last glass bottle.

    Press-and-Blow for Glass Alcohol Bottles

The pressure-blowing process is the most common method in glass bottle manufacturing and is used to make wide-mouthed bottles. A blob of glass (gob) is put into a blank mold and a plunger presses an indentation into the gob. This forms the billet. The blank is then turned over and placed in a blow mold. Then you blow it with air, and it takes the shape of a mold. This method is usually used for wide-mouthed containers.

    Blow-and-Blow for Glass Spirit Bottles

The blow-and-blow process is used to create glass bottles with a narrow necks. In this method, the gob is first pressed into a blank mold using compressed air. This forms the neck or finish of the bottle. A second blow through the newly formed neck begins to form the bottle. The thick-walled billet is turned over and transferred to a blow mold. At this point, the process is the same as press-blowing: bottles are formed against the sides of the blow mold using air.

After forming glass bottles using one of these two techniques, they must be cooled properly to prevent gaps, breaks, or cracks. The bottles are removed to an annealing furnace, which can reheat and cool them to strengthen them. Glass bottles that are not annealed may crack or shatter under small mechanical shocks or temperature changes.

After the glass liquor bottles have been cooled properly, they are checked for defects. If they pass inspection, then they are ready for consumer use.
